We’re excited to announce our upcoming event, Sun Bloc! We’ll be celebrating 9 years of Ground Up, with a 9-day boulder competition, and a big day-party. Read on for all the juicy details:
The Day Party – 12th April
On the 12th April we’ll be culminating the competition with a day party! We’ve got events happening all day, including:
- LIVE BOULDER FINALS at 6pm.
- UNPARALLEL BOOT DEMO – test out their fleet of shoes!
- FREE on-site sauna sessions in a beautiful Secret Sauna Co sauna.
- FREE cold plunges provided by Plunge Wellness.
- FREE oat-based coffees and hot chocolates from Oatly.
- FREE protein energy drinks from GUD Drinks, to fuel your climbing.
- FREE Strait and Narrow cocktails for the evening wind-down.
- Everyone’s favourite Fox and Oak donuts.
and more yet to be announced!
To take part in the festivities, you’ll need to either have a scorecard, pay for a day pass, be a member, or be a supervisor for a youth climber. The finals are open to anyone to spectate, but if we reach capacity priority will be given to those who purchased a competition scorecard, or are friends/ family of a finals competitor.
The Competition
This is a friendly competition! We will likely see some incredibly strong climbers in the finals, but you don’t need to be a pro-climber to take part. It’s a great opportunity to challenge yourself, and take part in a community-focused climbing event! You score yourself on a paper scorecard, and can choose whether you want your score to remain anonymous. There will be climbs suitable for absolute beginners, experienced climbers, and everyone in-between!
The competition will open on 4th April 2025. Competitors will be faced with a full boulder set of competition climbs, ranging from V Beginner – V Hard. You complete climbs in your own time, and score yourself on your own scorecard. We have a range of categories this year: Open (V5+), Novice (V0 – V4), Youth (age 18 and under), and Masters (age 45+). These categories are then split by Gender: Male, Female, Non-Binary. You self-select your competition category and gender on your scorecard.
Scorecards for competitors in the Open category, or competitors wishing to enter finals, are due at 2pm on Saturday 12th April. Competitors from all other categories, have until 4pm on Saturday 12th April to hand in their scorecards. If you have entered in a non-finals category (e.g Youth) and your points qualify for finals, you will be given the option to change into the Open category, or stay in your current one.
