Competition Round Up
December 6, 2025

Summer is long gone, but competition season has only just begun! We kicked off the rainy season with our two annual competitions. Read on for a full debrief!
Gravity Wars V
Every year we host the Sport Climbing BC difficulty competition, Gravity Wars. On Saturday 27th September we welcomed 179 climbers and over 200 supporters, spectators, and volunteers to Squamish to battle it out on our roped walls. Gravity Wars involve a lot more work than your standard local competition, as it is a qualifying event for the larger competition series. There are judges for each round, belayers for each competitor, check in volunteers, and heaps of equipment to set up and take down! Over 50 people volunteered for this event, and our local Save On Foods and Stong’s market stepped in to provide food for the team.
After a full day of climbing, the scores were announced and we welcomed our winners to the podiums. Prizes were generously donated from our sponsors. A huge thank you to Arc’teryx BC and Climb On Squamish who ensured all podium positions were able to walk away with some sweet gear! For the full scores breakdown, check out the SCBC website: Results
Huge thanks to Kingcraft Media and Dietz Adrián Sándor for the shots!
Back to the Plastic
We haven’t forgotten about our boulderers! Back to the Plastic is our annual in-house boulder competition, that aims to be as fun, accessible and inclusive as possible. This year we changed up the format and made ALL the sponsored prizes able to be won by anyone! Your scorecard was your entry, and everyone had an equal chance of winning, regardless of how hard you climbed. Each scorecard included a donation to Squamish Search and Rescue, and together we raised over $1000 for SSAR.
Our sponsors came through to support as always, with HUGE prizes up for grabs. These included a custom Flashed drifter Pad, an Arc’teryx Pack, Scandinave Spa passes, SunYeah tees, and a bunch of gear and swag from Climb On, Black Diamond, It’s 1978, MadRock and more!
Neither of these events would be possible without our generous sponsors, volunteers, and of course – our climbers! Here’s to many more events that bring our community together, support worthy causes, and get us climbing <3 Big things coming in 2026…
Are you interested in volunteering at events? Sport Climbing BC is a non-profit, volunteer-led organisation that aims to lead, develop and promote competitive and recreational sport climbing for all participants throughout BC. SCBC provides the highest standards for all SCBC sanctioned events, from standardized rules, to route setting and officiating, allowing them to ensure quality and consistency for athletes. This is made possible through volunteering. There are opportunities to volunteer at every event, and for many positions no experience is needed! It’s a great opportunity to witness the behind-the-scenes of the official competition scene.
