Introduction to Rock Climbing
Begin your rock climbing journey with Introduction to Rock Climbing! Tailored for beginners, this comprehensive experience covers the fundamentals of rock climbing. The course provides a supportive environment to build confidence and competence. This program is ideal for families or small groups eager to explore the fantastic rock climbing that Squamish has to offer. No experience is required, just bring your sense of adventure!

Introduction to Anchor Building
If you are looking to make the shift from indoor climbing to conquering outdoor top-rope routes on your own, Introduction to Anchor building is the course for you! Tailored for climbers already proficient in top rope belaying and climbing, Introduction to Anchor Building will help you take the next steps in your climbing journey, equipping you with the knowledge to confidently top rope climb outdoors on your own.
In this course you will learn:
- Crag safety
- Basic knots for anchors
- Redundancy in anchors
- Anchor integrity
- Bolt anchor construction
- Tree anchor construction
- Anchor threading and cleaning
Prerequisites:
- 6 months of top rope climbing and belaying experience
- Must be at least 14 years old
Introduction to Sport Inside Out
This course will help you progress from top rope climbing to leading sport climbs outdoors. Day one is a two hour indoor session where you will learn the fundamentals of lead climbing. Day two, you will venture outside to further build upon those skills and learn some new ones. Sign up to kickstart a safe and successful sport climbing journey.

- Hazard recognition
- Clipping correctly and efficiently
- Quickdraw use and clipping error identification
- Lead belaying
- Mock leading
- Rope management
- Anchor building
- Movement techniques
- How to fall
- Anchor threading and lowering
Prerequisites:
- 6 months climbing and belaying experience
- Must be able to confidently and efficiently climb 5.9 on top rope
- Must be at least 16 years old
Single-Pitch Climbing
If you and your crew are eager to experience a thrilling day of single-pitch climbing in Squamish, look no further! This option is great for families or big groups for either a half day or full day of rock climbing. Our ACMG certified guides will help you discover some of the area’s best single-pitch climbs, ensuring an adventure tailored to your abilities, experience and preferences. They’ll handle all the setup, leaving you to enjoy the climb and have a blast.

Rock Rescue Series
Our rock rescue series is made up of four different 3 hour courses so you can choose the one(s) that best suit your climbing goals! From single-pitch basics to multi-pitch epics, our courses offer a progression of rock rescue skills.
Prerequisites:
- 6 months climbing and belaying experience
- Recommended for outdoor lead climbers
- Must be at least 16 years old

Ground Up is also associated with KidSport BC through Sport Climbing BC. This means our kids are eligible
to apply for grants to help make our programs affordable!
Athletics 4 Kids is another great option that supplies funding to support kids in pursuing sport.

Safety & Risks
All participants are expected to recognize and accept the risks inherently involved in the activity of climbing. Part of the risk involved in undertaking any activity or program is relative to the participant’s own state of health (physical, mental or emotional) and the awareness, care and skill with which the participant conducts themselves in that activity or program. The specific risks vary from one activity to another. All participation in programs and services is voluntary and each participant knowingly assumes all risks associated with his or her own participation. IN CASE OF PERSONAL INJURY OR ACCIDENT, CONTACT A STAFF MEMBER IMMEDIATELY. For life threatening circumstances contact 911 directly.
Cancellation
Classes are occasionally cancelled on holidays or because of special events. Please check our calendar to see when classes may be cancelled.
Refund Policy or Withdrawals
Camps and Youth Recreational Programs: Refund requested 7 days before the beginning of the session receive a 100% refund. In less than 7 days before the beginning of session, the refund amount is 50%. If cancellation is within the session, it is 50% of the remaining days.
Program Cancellation & Low Enrollment
Ground Up Climbing reserves the right to cancel a program due to low enrollment. Classes may be combined if enrollment is low.
Alergies & Medical Conditions
If your child has allergies or any medical conditions that we should be aware of, please let us know at the time of registration. Please also speak with your child’s instructor about any conditions that could impact your child’s safety. In the event of an emergency, we will make every attempt to contact the parent(s) or guardian(s) listed on the account. If we are unable to reach the parent(s) or guardian(s), we will contact the person listed as the alternate emergency contact. Please keep the contact information (home phone, cell phone or work phone) current on your family account. Call us at 604 567 8850 to update your account.
Sick Children – When to Stay Home
A sick child can infect other participants as well as staff and runs a greater risk of injury in sport and recreation programs. If your child has any of these symptoms within 24 hours of his/her scheduled program, please keep them at home:
– Fever
– Diarrhea
– Vomiting
– Rash or other skin infection (persistent itching or scratching)
– Coughing, wheezing or a runny nose
