What is Climbing?
Stay fit, stay engaged and have fun. Rock climbing has long been an activity that defines Squamish. In recent years it has gained incredible momentum both indoors and outside. The draw to climbing is that it challenges us mentally, physically and technically in almost even portions.
First Visit Overview
Your first visit can be broken down into three simple steps. See what you can do now, to get on the walls quicker when you arrive.
Step 1 – Waiver
Every single visitor to Ground Up Climbing who plans to set foot on the mats must have a waiver signed and in our database. You have options with this:
Option 1: (easier) Fill out the waiver on our website now to streamline your climbing experience.
Option 2: Fill it out when you come in the door.
*Please note: Participants under the age of 19 years old must have their parent or legal guardian sign and fill out the waiver. *
STEP 2 – Orientation
You have the option of a bouldering orientation or will be asked to book an introductory belay lesson that is called the GROUND SCHOOL.
STEP 3 – Climb!
What to wear
Clothes that move with you and stretch with you. Jogging or yoga pants are recommended as they will cover the areas that a harness’s leg loops will be in contact with. We also request that footwear be worn in the gym at all times so please come prepared.

For each method of climbing our walls there is an associated check to ensure you have the necessary skills and can demonstrate risk management with the equipment you intend to use in our facility.
Our belay checks are performed with a “pass or fail” component and are non-refundable.
Instruction or coaching by our staff or friends is not permitted during any of our belay checks. Our checks are strict but fair to focus on ensuring you can manage the risks and ensuring the diligence of all climbers and belayers who come to Ground Up.
