Updated December 26th 2021
Dear G. Up. Community,
After extensive conversations with the public health officers and collaboration with other climbing facilities across BC, we have received confirmation that climbing facilities qualify as sports facilities, not fitness gyms, and we can operate with reduced capacity and increased restrictions. We are so relieved, and so are our staff, so thank you again for your patience through this. We are planning to re-open with a plan to manage the changing transmission concerns with the COVID-19 variant on Monday, December 27th.
Please help us make it happen.
There are 8 changes below, please read them all.
Members and Punch Pass holder only hours
From 3:30-6:30 pm on weeknights, during youth programs. This means we are not accepting day pass purchases during this period.
New climbers, day pass users and guest pass users
All are welcome at all other open hours including:
Monday/Tuesday: 12pm – 3:30pm // 6:30pm – 11pm
Wed-Fri: 6am- 3:30pm // 6:30pm- 11pm
Sat/Sun: 10am- 9pm
* please watch our social media updates for any changes in hours
Age 3 and under
No current access (unless in arms /carrier at all times )until capacity limits are lifted.
Vaccine Cards- Checking again.
Starting Jan 2 all records will be wiped and we will require all facility users to show their BC QR code + government issued photo ID proving double vaccination status, checked by the BC QR code verifier app.
If you do not have this with you, even if you showed us before, you will not be able to come in so please come ready.
Here’s how to get it if your vaccines were out of province or if your name does not match your ID: https://www.immunizationrecord.gov.bc.ca/
We didn’t like the booking system either- believe us. So, we are going to try something different this time and see if it works
We will have a capacity counter on our website homepage and will be internally monitoring check in/check outs for numbers.
If you show up and we are already at capacity, you will be asked to wait outside until there is space.
2 hour session max
In order to accommodate all our members and users at this time, we will be asking everyone to please limit their session length to a maximum of 2 hours. And check out at the end, leaving through the side exit.
Our distance markers are still up throughout the facility and we are asking that all our facility users be aware of their spacing from other customers, this includes leaving 1 rope line between climbers on routes where necessary.
3 layer masks are required at all times in the facility, even while climbing. All masks must cover the mouth, nose and chin.
Bandanas or single layer cloth masks will not be accepted.
Must be eaten in designated spaces. Coffee/tea will still be available.
Training room/ exercise space closed until further notice.
The Treadwall will remain open for 1 user at a time.
Create space. Have patience.
We’ve talked a lot about physical space in this post, but we also want everyone to remember that this pandemic has been a long one and we are all feeling it. Please communicate with kindness and have patience for one another. We are all doing our best in these strange and ever changing times.
What are we going to do?
Aside from enforcing these restrictions, we are going to:
- keep our makeup air system running full steam, which will turn over all air in 2 hours
- keep hygiene stations with hand sanitizer situated around the facility
- continue to look to public health for guidance on how to stay open and mitigate the risks of transmission in our facility
